Frigate Bird Sanctuary Tour
This ecological adventure takes visitors to Barbuda’s Frigate Bird Sanctuary, the world’s largest. In fact, one third of the island is a
national park and a natural breeding destination
for these unique birds.
Accessible only by boat, the sanctuary is on the
north end of Codringgton Lagoon, where the
Frigate birds brood their eggs in mangrove
bushes, which stretch for miles. The birds have
enormous wingspans of up to eight feet.
During the mating season, the males have a distinct red pouch under their beaks. To see them
nesting amongst the mangroves, feeding and
flying overhead is truly a spectacular sight.
